Learn to Skate



We offer a variety of classes that teach all aspects of skating. Each level progressively introduces skills so they are mastered at your own pace. At the end of each session, skaters are given a written evaluation of skills mastered and a recommended level for advancement. All classes follow ISI standards. 

Class days and times may be adjusted, combined, or canceled due to enrollment levels or facility events.

NO REFUNDS or CREDITS on any programs.

There is a $25 registration fee for all classes

We now have Open Enrollment. You may sign up for classes at any time.

Levels

Tots: Beginners ages 3-5 years old

Thursday 6:05-6:50PM, Saturday 9:05-9:50am

Our tots beginner class is for young first time skaters. Recommended ages are 3-5 years old. Emphasis is on the proper way of falling down and getting up, balance, marching, and gliding.

Pre Alpha: Beginners ages 6 & older

Thursday 6:05-6:50PM, Saturday 9:05-9:50am

Pre Alpha is the entry level class for aspiring skaters ages 6 and older. Forward and backward swizzles, two foot and one foot glides and backward wiggles are taught. 

Alpha: Advanced Beginners

Thursday 6:05-6:50PM, Saturday 9:05-9:50am
Prerequisite Level: Tots and/or Pre Alpha

Skaters focus on the development of forward stroking, forward crossovers, and snowplow stops.

Beta: Advanced Beginners

Thursday 6:05-6:50PM, Saturday 8:20-9:05am
Prerequisite Level: Alpha

Skaters are taught backward stroking, backward crossovers, and T-stops.

Gamma: Advanced Beginners

Thursday 6:05-6:50PM, Saturday 8:20 - 9:05am
Prerequisite Level: Beta

Skaters continue to develop their crossovers and skating skills in addition to learning forward outside three turns, forward inside mohawks, and hockey stops. 

Delta: Advanced Beginners

Thursday 6:05-6:50PM, Saturday 8:20 - 9:05am
Prerequisite Level: Gamma

Skaters work on forward inside three turns, forward outside and inside edges, shoot the ducks, lunges and bunny hops. 

Low Freestyle: Advanced Skaters

Prerequisite Level: Delta

Freestyle 1 & 2 classes focus on development of beginner half rotation jumps, two foot and one foot spins, backward edges and forward spirals. 

Mid-Level Freestyle: Advanced Skaters

Thursday 6:05-6:50PM, Saturday 8:20 - 9:05am
Prerequisite Level: Low Freestyle

Freestyle 3-5 classes emphasize development and mastery of full rotation jumps, advanced spins, various footwork exercises and advanced spirals.

Adult Learn to Skate

Saturday 9:05-9:50am

The Adult Learn to Skate class is ideal for beginner and intermediate level skaters looking to improve their skating skills. The focus of this class is on the basics of forward and backward skating including gliding, snowplow stops, stroking, and crossovers.

Homeschool/Tots Ice Skating Class

Monday 11:00 - 11:45AM

Our Homeschool/Tots class takes place during open skate. Skaters learn a variety of skills such as swizzles, snowplows stops, stroking, and crossovers. After class, skaters are encouraged to practice their skills for the remainder of open skate from 11:45am-12:30pm. Practice time and rental skates are included in the class cost. In addition to the annual registration fee, the monthly cost is $55 per student.

Power Skating: Advanced Skaters

Monday 6:00-6:30AM

Prerequisite Level: Delta

This 30 minute skating class focuses on increasing the skater's speed, edge work, stamina, and balance while developing fundamental skating skills. Skaters must be in Freestyle prior to enrolling. In addition to the annual registration fee, the monthly cost of the power class is $55.

Make-up Class Policy

Skaters are only allowed 1 make up class per month. You cannot make up classes from previous months. All classes are held on Olympic Ice Arena surface unless otherwise stated.

Dress Code

Please dress your skater in layers that are warm, comfortable, and allow freedom of movement. Mittens or gloves are mandatory for all skaters. Helmets are suggested for skaters 5 & under. The helmet should cover the back of the head. No double-runner skates allowed. Skate rental included in cost of class.
