Midwest Ice Center provides the highest quality instruction to athletes of all ages and abilities. We offer public skate sessions, drop-in hockey, and private parties.
Midwest Youth Hockey Association was formed in 2006 providing children from Northwest Indiana the opportunity to learn, compete, and enjoy the game of ice hockey. The Blackbirds were founded on the principles of a strong commitment to skill development, promotion of sportsmanship and fair play, and an unmatched work ethic.
We offer adult hockey leagues for both recreational and competitive players ages 18 and older. Adult Learn to Play class is ideal for anyone interested in learning the game of ice hockey. Development Program is the bridge program between hockey learn to skate and the Midwest Blackbirds youth hockey teams. Cross Ice Hockey is a 2 day a week program and is based on the USA Hockey Development Model of practicing and playing games across the width of the ice rather than full ice.
MTIC hosts the Illiana High School Hockey League teams you know and love, like Lake Central, Munster Mustangs and Crown Point Bulldogs.

We offer a variety of classes that teach all aspects of skating. Each level progressively introduces skills so they are mastered at your own pace. At the end of each session, skaters are given a written evaluation of skills mastered and a recommended level for advancement. All classes follow ISI standards. We now have Open Enrollment. You may sign up for classes at any time.
We offer open skate for family fun, casule ice skating, or date night. Bring skates or rent them from the front desk. Check our Event Calendar for times.

Midwest Gym Center is located at both the Dyer & Crown Point locations and features combined 54,000 sq. ft. Gymnastics/Trampoline & Tumbling Training Facilities.
includes four events within its program - trampoline, power tumbling, synchronized trampoline and double mini - trampoline. Both men and women participate in all four events. Some gymnasts choose to focus on just one area, while other participate in all four events.
Midwest’s two facilities boast 3 full Spring Cheer Floors - perfect for cheerleaders needing to practice tumbling or running routines. Squads are welcome to use their dedicated practice time to work on competition routines and/or game material.
Great care is taken to teach gymnastics skills in a thorough and progressive manner to insure safe and continual progress. Through the acquisition of gymnastics skills, it is our goal to help develop a positive self-image and self-confidence in every student we teach.
Parkour is a method of physical training that develops one’s ability to overcome obstacles (both physical and mental). Underpinning this is a philosophy of altruism and useful strength, longevity, self-improvement and self-understanding.

Stephanie has been skating for over 15 years. She has competed in freestyle and solo ice dance competitions. Her highest accomplishment to date was winning the gold medal in 2012 at the Solo Ice Dance National Championship. She competed in Gold pattern dance; the highest level. Stephanie has passed the following tests: Gold Dance, Senior Moves, Novice Freestyle, and three international ice dances. She is currently working on the rest of her international ice dances and her Junior Freestyle. Stephanie began student teaching when she was 13 years old. She has over 5 years of coaching experience. She has been skating director at Midwest since 2012.
Judy is a degreed Physical Educator with over 30 years of experience in the sport of gymnastics - club owner, head coach (club & high school), judge, and administrator. She is the former Illinois USA (USGF) Gymnastics State Chair, Junior Olympic Chair, and current Level 5 Chair. She is a wife of over 40 years, mother of 3 (all successful gymnasts), and grandmother of 4. She brings the winning attitude of "Best Effort" to Midwest!
Zachary played minor professional hockey for 4 season after players two seasons of Division 1 Hockey at RIT. He made stops in the ECHL, MAHL and AAHL during his hockey playing career. Zachary currently instructs the off-ice program for the Blackbirds youth hockey program and officiates for Midwest.
Brandon played youth hockey at Homewood Flossmoor and from there went on to play college hockey at Bradley University, where he had the opportunity to work out with the Peoria Rivermen.
Brandon began coaching youth hockey in 1995 and has coached teams to an Illinois High School state championship and several NIHL Championships, runner-ups, and final fours.
Brandon is a skill oriented power skate instructor who strives to take players to the next level. Whether that be from learn to skate to house league, house league to travel, travel to high school or high school to college/junior."
Master of Sport Russia, comes all the way from Varonezh, Russia. Misha started taking Acro-Classes at 7 years old, and continued moving through the ranks. From 2001-2006 he competed professionally with a Mens Team in his hometown of Varonezh. Some of his achievements include placing 2nd and 3rd Russian Cup Tournament and was a finalist in 2006. Misha worked with the Ukraine National Circus as well as the Ringing Brothers. He was a Gymnastic's Judge for the disabled in his hometown Varonezh for the City Cup and Coached Junior-Pre-Team classes.
